How to Play
Learn the rules of Basketball 2000 in just a few simple steps. Scroll through to see how each part of the game works!
Getting Started
You can play with more than 4 players, but the game is more fun with 2 to 4. If you can't decide who should go first, the youngest player starts. A different player goes first each new game played.
Setting Up
Take turns placing 12 point pads on the ground. The game comes with 18 point pads, but only 12 are used each game. You can pick any point pad you want, but harder shots should be worth more points.
Scoring Points
Players score points by making a shot from each point pad. You can only score points from each pad once.
Taking Turns
Each player gets one shot per turn. If you miss, try again on your next turn from the same or a different pad. You don't get extra shots after making a basket.
Keeping Score
Keep track of points with the reusable electronic scoreboard. Write your name or initials at the top. Every time you score 100 points, draw a tick mark under your name. For example, if you make a 600-point shot, you should draw 6 tick marks.
Winning
The first player to get at least 2000 points (20 or more tick marks) wins by shouting "BASKETBALL 2000"! If you don't shout "BASKETBALL 2000" you are disqualified, and the other players continue the current game. If only one player is left, they automatically win.
Playing with Chalk
If you don't have a kit, you can use chalk to draw Xs where the point pads would go. You can also keep score on the pavement with chalk. If you want to play indoors or over and over, consider getting a kit with reusable pads and an electronic scoreboard.
